"It is a pride for us to be one of the first hotels to open its doors after the earthquake of January 12. For there are many hotels and many other investments that are being done in this area. " This is how the young CEO of Servotel, Jean-Sebastien Buteau, said on receiving the news this Tuesday morning at the reception of this new hotel located on Toussaint Louverture Boulevard, not far from Guy Malary Terminal, Cargo Area.
The Servotel is a dashing cream two storey building extending to the middle of a property of about one hectare in area. The entrance to the courtyard, planted with shrubs, gives a feeling of serenity to the client who crossed the main gate. The court, stony in places, lets see bustling workers still at work finishing of this building marks a turning point in the hotel industry in Haiti after the tragic event of January 12, 2010.
Busy with his daily activities within the hotel and the reception of visitors, Jean-Sebastien Buteau, young enough to her status, is still a little time in his schedule to talk about the history of the project that led the construction of Servotel.
"After the earthquake, there was a demand for hotel facilities in the country because many hotels have been destroyed. Meet this demand, it was decided to build a hotel on the airport road because it is a strategic area, "says CEO Servotel, arguing that many people who return to Haiti would have preferred a walk on land near the airport, given the existing difficult traffic continuously in downtown and some other streets of the capital.
Thus, members of the Haitian diaspora returning to the country and need to make a stopover in Port-au-Prince before going to the provinces are, among others, the main targets of this hotel, next to the businessmen and members of international organizations.
The Servotel has fifty-four (54) rooms (suites included). Meanwhile the official opening of the hotel, thirty-six (36) rooms are put into service. Added to this pool, restaurant, bar are also open to current guests.
In a not too distant future, we will have our main lobby will have a restaurant and one outdoor, conference rooms can accommodate sixty people and a gym.
No date has been announced for the official opening of the hotel. However, taking into account the advanced finishing work in three or four months the work is completed, according to what was stated the general manager of the hotel, Jean-Sébastien Buteau.
The project construction started in April 2010. "We tried to go as fast as possible as soon as we finish as soon as we open our doors to the public. As demand is high these days, it will help relieve the visitors, investors who want to enter the country. They have now an area near the airport where they can stay. If they want to go in the provinces, they can spend the night on arrival. "
Regarding the name of the hotel, Mr. Buteau explained: "We chose the name Servotel - which is composed of two words: hotel services and to symbolize the fact that Servotel is a place where we try to give the best of ourselves to offer the best service to customers.
The construction of Servotel reveals a double benefit for the country, according to the official, who points out that not only this new hotel will help alleviate the chronic deficiencies of hotel rooms in the country, it will also mitigate unemployment of the population. Sixty employees already in the service of Servotel. "We have already created many jobs and we will continue to create more jobs once it is 100% operational", said Jean-Sébastien Buteau.
On Sunday, November 27 can be classified as a special day in the annals of the hotel in Haiti. This date marks the commissioning of all the new hotels built after the earthquake that devastated the hotel industry in January 2010. The first customers are Servotel other than members of the delegation of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) that are in the country under the Investment Forum held on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday, November 30 at the Karibe Convention Center .
The Director General of Servotel did not hide his satisfaction with this victory in the hotel on the earthquake. "It's a pride for us to be among the first to have opened our doors after the earthquake, especially one as important group of people who may be potential investors for future investment projects and development country ". It has not yet completed one hundred percent, but we could still accommodate a number of people by providing a minimum of comfort. The feedback is pretty positive our customers are quite pleased to see a new investment, new construction methods, and even when it is not yet complete, they have an idea of what will be the finished product, " says Buteau.
According to Buteau, with the construction of the hotel, members of the IDB are very pleased to see something new in a strategic location. This will serve, he says, to increase their confidence in the ability of Haiti and the motivation to invest more in the country. If they arrive in Haiti, two years after the earthquake, they had seen no sign of progress, they would have had some fear, might be left to discouragement.
The victory of the earthquake is all the more intense it is carried out by Haitian strategists in an area where we are often obliged to resort to partnerships with foreigners for such projects. Servotel is a label created 100% of Haitians aware of the need to provide the country with hotel facilities viable. Fairly convincing evidence that there is some willingness on the part of local investors to participate in the reconstruction of Haiti.
In regard to the amount invested so far in construction of the hotel, the Chief has not been able to find out. However, he told us that the hotel building was funded by a local bank. According to Mr. Buteau, this gesture is a testament to the willingness of institutions from all sectors of the country to participate in reconstruction.
Servotel not afraid of tough competition ahead in the field of hospitality, because a lot of hotel construction projects are underway throughout the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, and even in the provinces. The competition is good for companies in that it motivates them to try harder and do more to differentiate. Such a challenge can only be beneficial for the hotel, which will now offer more services, more hotel rooms, more cleanliness in the rooms, more choice in bars and restaurants, more entertainment. It will bring an improvement in hotel services in Haiti. In terms of price, Servotel intends to respect the standard observed in the Caribbean region. The cost of one day accommodation in one of the rooms is set at 120 dollars, says the general manager of the premises, Jean-Sebastien Buteau.
