Construction Training Team Leader

For the position of Construction Training Team Leader Build Change is seeking a hands-on, experienced construction trainer with ability to demonstrate good construction techniques in a developing country context, teach builders and engineers how to execute construction projects successfully, and fill out construction quality paperwork. The successful applicant will have a proven management track record, history of successful mentorship, and demonstrated ability to communicate technical terms and concepts to non-technical persons.

• Demonstrate good quality concrete block masonry, concrete mixing, barbending, timber joinery, materials quality inspection and testing, and other construction skills during training courses and on the construction site

• Recruit, mentor and train Build Change local staff and staff of partner agencies to provide hands-on training to builders, homeowners, and materials producers

• Fill out construction quality inspection checklists and mentor staff to do so

• Improve and expand on training curricula and resources for earthquake-resistant design and construction of homes, targeted at homeowners, builders, construction professionals and engineers

• Work with other program staff to schedule, oversee, and report on training programs

• Maintain and expand relationships with local and national governments, partner agencies, and academic institutions.

• Prepare weekly, monthly, project, and final reports.

Qualifications / Evaluations:: 
Minimum 5 years professional experience in construction, construction management, or construction training, with demonstrated experience managing a team of support staff and delivering outcomes on time • Advanced skills in masonry, carpentry, concrete mixing, and barbending, and other construction techniques • Understanding of earthquake-resistant design and construction of confined masonry, reinforced masonry, and timber buildings in a developing country context • Project management skillset that includes ownership over milestones, workplans, reporting, using computer tools such as Excel and Word • International development experience and willingness to live and work in a post-disaster setting; experience in Haiti is a strong plus • No ego, drama, or pessimism; the successful candidate will be flexible, humble, patient, and have a good sense of humor. • Fluent English with working knowledge of French and Creole strong pluses.
