The Project Coordinator is responsible for developing, piloting and launching all activities relating to the Haiti Housing Program through the partnership of HOPE and Esperanza International. The program will be carried out in the interior provinces of Haiti, in cooperation with the Esperanza Haiti country management team. The Project Coordinator will ensure that the program is sustainable, meeting all financial and program targets, contextualized, knowledge sharing and implementing the best building practices to ensure safe and affordable homes are being built in collaboration with qualified Haitians.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
To promote and fulfill the mission and vision of HOPE International and Esperanza and to create and lead a manageable, replicable owner-built housing program which enables an owner-builder through a solidarity group to build their own home in several stages or modules using indigenous materials and technology appropriate for owner-builders and using applicable, proven, Biblical, economic, and social processes and principles from HOPE and Esperanza’s Christ-centered microeconomic development methodology.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Management
Launch pilot phase of the Haiti Housing Program;
Coordinate with local suppliers to receive the best price and source local building materials for all projects;
Meet with local trade schools and community members to establish baseline local building practices currently being implemented;
Meet with local government officials, lawyers and notary to establish clear process to ensure land ownership prior to constructing a home;
Identify, train and hire a Haitian Construction Specialist responsible for jobsite management, client training and quality control;
Construct one or more spec homes to determine accurate pricing and timeline for build;
Create two year business plan from field findings and lessons learned throughout the Pilot Phase;
Launch Haiti Housing Program in accordance to approved business plan;
Frequent, detailed and high quality written communication with direct reports and senior management;
Generate accurate and timely reports for HOPE and Esperanza management, major donors and other relevant parties as needed.
II. Human Resources
Mentorand train local staff to prepare them for future institutional roles.
III. Undertake special projects and assignments as needed, including exploring potential expansion opportunities in Haiti per the direction of HOPE’s Director of Programs.
IV. Provide any additional support to the Esperanza Managing Director as needed.
