The two-day Invest in Haiti Forum in the capital, Port-au-Prince, is aimed at highlighting business opportunities in the country.  The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) organized the event along with the Haitian government and the Clinton Foundation.

Business leaders are discussing new possibilities for Haiti at a conference designed to bring more money and jobs to the impoverished Caribbean nation.

Haitian President Michel Martelly said his government wants to create 500,000 jobs during the next three years.

Joined the newspaper in the early evening, Stephanie Villedrouin stressed the positive aspect of the signing of the MoU at the end of the panel on tourism, which had a full house at the investment conference at the Karibe Convention Center , on Tuesday.

Heineken says it already owned nearly 23 percent of Brasserie Nationale d’Haiti SA, known as Brana. The Dutch company says it sees room for growth in Haiti with the country’s increasing economic and political stability.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Dutch brewer Heineken NV says it will increase its stake in the dominant beer company in Haiti to 95 percent.

Heineken says it already owned nearly 23 percent of Brasserie Nationale d’Haiti SA, known as Brana. The Dutch company says it sees room for growth in Haiti with the country’s increasing economic and political stability.

The deal is expected to be completed next month for undisclosed terms.

PHARMACEUTICAL companies around the globe are donating billions of dollars in free drugs to third world countries grappling with poverty and disease. Abbott Laboratories is taking its philanthropy a step further. The Illinois-based company is donating the time of dozens of workers with expertise in food sciences and engineering, in addition to $6.5 million cash, to build a charitable, self-sustaining nutrition enterprise in Haiti.

President Michel Martelly was in Miami, Florida, USA to tell potential investors that Haiti is open for business, particularly investment, and is in the process of doing everything it can to get the ball rolling. "We need to create jobs, and in order to create jobs we need to create security," Mr. Martelly said. "We need to let [investors] know we're going to change our laws, our investment laws, and let them know we will secure their investments."
