Cemex’s new president for Dominican Republic and the Caribbean region announced the start of an ambitious project to build low cost housing out of molds before yearend, which in his view will reduce preparation time, transport expenses and result in sturdier structures.

Santo Domingo.- Cemex’s new president for Dominican Republic and the Caribbean region announced the start of an ambitious project to build low cost housing out of molds before yearend, which in his view will reduce preparation time, transport expenses and result in sturdier structures.

Carlos Gonzalez, who made the announcement during a welcome reception in the Dominican capital, affirmed that Cemex has already carried out the innovative project successfully in other parts of Latin America.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - Latin America's main development bank says the cost of Haiti's catastrophic Jan. 12 earthquake in damage done will likely amount to twice the value of the country's economy. A report by three Inter-American Bank economists found last month's earthquake to be more devastating than the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami was for Indonesia — and five times deadlier than a 1972 earthquake that leveled Nicaragua's capital.
